I’m an Army brat; my dad was a career Army officer, so I grew up all over the world. I continued the nomadic tradition when I married an Army officer (now retired) and we settled in Alexandria. We have two children and two grandchildren – with one more arriving in November. They are Army brats too!
What makes your training style unique?:
I work hard to make sure each student in my classes feels successful and gets what he or she came for. I pride myself in my classes attracting all age groups, fitness levels, shapes, sizes and genders. Everyone can and should do the BarreOne classes - and I’m sure to offer several options. No matter what exercise/movement we are doing, it’s accessible and there’s something for everyone.
If you could change one behavior you see in your clients, what would it be?:
It’s simple: I would have everyone stop comparing themselves to others. My favorite line is ‘You do you.’
What is your favorite exercise? Why?:
It depends on the day! If I really need to just sweat, you might find me tearing it up on a spin bike. If I want to work hard and play at the same time, I love BANG Power Dance. On those days I need more flexibility, strength, and grace… you can meet me at the barre!
Briefly describe your weekly workout schedule. Is it seasonal? How many rest days do you take each week?:
My workout schedule is a little crazy. I teach fitness classes for a living, so my body has adjusted to a lot of activity. I teach 6-8 classes each week, also doing my own workouts on 4 or 5 days per week. I do take one rest day each week, but am still active on those days. Everyone around me knows that I don’t idle very well!
What is your favorite outdoor Washington D.C. activity? Do you have a favorite hike or run?:
Honestly, it has to be walking all of the amazing trails around here. There are so many trails and so many wonderful things to see: the rivers, the monuments, even the cool houses in Old Town Alexandria.
How do you recover from a tough workout?:
I drink a ridiculous amount of water. I also take in a protein shake after the workout and am sure to eat plenty of protein and healthy carbs throughout the course of the day.
What is your favorite place in DC to get a healthy meal?:
Right now, I love Cava! They built one right by my house, so it’s working perfectly for me.
Do you have anything on the horizon you would like to share?:
Barre classes are really popular right now. At Sport & Health, our BarreOne format is a great option for people looking for a music-driven, accessible, strength and flexibility workout. BarreOne has new music and moves each quarter so participants always have something to look forward to. A new release comes in August. I was lucky enough to present the new release at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in July – everyone loved it so much, I can’t wait to bring it to our clubs!
