Thanks to Cabell Rosanelli, co-founder of the THEALUMRUN, for answering our questions.

What makes THEALUMRUN unique?
THEALUMRUN is the first road race event to combine the passion college and university alumni, students and sports fans have for their favorite colleges / universities with the fun and excitement of a 5k / 10k road race. Each Alumrunner chooses the school they want to run for and receives a premium tech tee featuring the colorway of their school.

THEALUMRUN has something for the whole family.  Kids can participate in the Future Alumni Fun Run – a 1,000m trek down Pennsylvania Ave with their favorite college mascots. Earning a PhD in post-race celebrations, THEALUMRUN features a tailgate inspired finish festival with food and refreshments and a wellness village filled with spa and fitness activities from sponsors like Elizabeth Arden Red Door and lululemon.

Please offer a few course highlights.
THEALUMRUN starts and finishes at Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the Old Post Office Pavillion. The course features views of the US Capitol, National Mall and Washington Monument. Alumrunners will experience that rush of school pride as they traverse the course with fellow alums, fans and friends from rival schools. We can’t wait to see which school makes our Pennsylvania Avenue course its ‘home turf’ by turning out the most Alumrunners and fans!

How many runners do you expect in this year's race?
We are expecting to draw at least 5,000 participants to this year’s inaugural event. Washington, DC boasts some of the most vibrant alumni networks in the country. Schools like Michigan, Harvard and Penn State boast over 20,000 alums each in the DC area!

Do participants receive any swag associated with the race?
Absolutely! Each participant will receive a premium tech tee inspired by the colorway of his/her favorite school. Additionally, Alumrunners can upgrade to a premium long-sleeve with a unique design.

Will the race benefit any charities?
Yes – every dollar donated by participants will go directly to the school of their choosing. It is important for schools to increase funding sources and THEALUMRUN is a unique way for alums to give back and represent their school.

If someone can't run are there other opportunities for participation?
There are many ways to participate besides running in THEALUMRUN. Our race weekend kicks off with a reunion style party that can be attended by all. There will be refreshments and dancing with friends. Additionally, since THEALUMRUN falls during March Madness, partygoers can cheer on their favorite school during the tournament while catching up with friends.

A second opportunity to participate is THEALUMRUN’s day of service, hosted Saturday, March 28 in Washington, DC. This community service event is designed to give back to the gracious cities that are hosting THEALUMRUN in 2015.

Anyone who’s not running can cheer their favorite participants and schools from the sidelines and join them at the post-race festival area. The mixing of school alumni groups should provide a fun and exciting atmosphere for all!

Are there any exciting pre or post-race activities?
Yes. THEALUMRUN’s race-day festival features two unique sections – a tailgate inspired college quad and the wellness village. The college quad will offer Alumrunners and family / friends access to great food and drink, while the wellness village will provide premium pre and post-race health and wellness experiences. There will be mini-spa services provided by Elizabeth Arden Red Door, yoga and stretching featuring lululemon and mascot photos and face painting for the kids. The collegiate atmosphere will be further heightened by DJs, live music and performances by college bands and a Capella groups.

Will there be a place to store valuables?
Yes.

Any helpful tips for getting to the race?
THEALUMRUN is centrally located and easily accessible. THEALUMRUN can be easily accessed via Metro by using the stations: Metro Center, Archives or Federal Triangle. Parking is also available in one of the many nearby lots and on city streets, where permitted.
