Blog: minutes per mile
"Though I think it's awesome that our city hosts such big-name races (Rock n' Roll, Nike Women's Half, etc.), I'm a fan of the local races held by the DC Road Runners club. They're usually free or really cheap for club members and have a low-key vibe that lets you do your thing without worrying about finding parking or getting run over by people in costume or with strollers. Plus, DCRR has timing mats and all the race fixins that make a good course: water stops, timing mats, instant results, etc."

"I loved Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC. I wear my Tiffany finisher's necklace all the time!"

"Marine Corps was my first marathon and will always hold a special place in my heart. Plus the Marines have organization and logistics down to a science."
"I have ran the Cherry Blossom 10 miler for the last two years and I love the energy that surrounds this event. It is a bit crowded for my liking but it is impossible not to get swept up in the excitement of all the runners and people cheering on the sides of the street! I also think that Ohio Drive is gorgeous! The group that sets up shop at the tip of Ohio Drive with beer and Oreos for runners is also pretty amazing."

"My favorite is definitely the Arlington 9-11 Memorial 5K. It is extremely organized and the amount of support before, during and after is simply amazing. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half will always have a special place in my heart. It was my first half marathon ever and my finishing just proved what I am capable of and lit the fire for more racing."
Blog: I run because ...
"My favorite road race is the Wilson Bridge Half Marathon that is put on by Pacers. It's an awesome fall race that starts down in Mt. Vernon and finishes at the National Harbor. My favorite trail race is The North Face Endurance Challenge, which is held on the Potomac Heritage Trail."

"I work as a contractor for the U.S. Army, so I would have to say my favorite DC area race is the Army 10 Mile. I am from Annapolis MD, so I also like the Annapolis 10 Mile, though it is held in August and the conditions are often 200% humidity, with hills. Marine Corps Marathon is a wonderful race too."

"One of my favorite local runs would have to be the GW Parkway Classic 10 Miler. It's along one of my favorite running trails, the Mount Vernon Trail, and is just so scenic and lovely! Granted, those rolling hills can be a literal pain in the you know what, however it's a race I really look forward to every year."

"I love the Parks Half Marathon in Montgomery County – the course is great and it’s well organized."

"Really I have two. The Baltimore Marathon will always have a place in my heart because that was the first marathon. The one that got me into running. Is it the most beautiful course? No. But it is a great event worth running.
The second would be The North Face Endurance Challenge - DC. That was my first ultra, and I've gone back a few times since. It's a really fun race with a great atmosphere. Perfect for first time ultrarunners.
A few other are trail races I love are the Bull Run 50 and any of the EX2 Adventure trail races. That series has everything from 5 mile to marathon distance trail races, and they are all a blast."

"The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. It’s not just because of the flat course and incredible organization of the race. Every year I’ve competed in the race, there have been perfect weather conditions (knock on wood!). "
