Mark is an AFAA certified group fitness instructor who has been teaching classes for over two years. Mark has been with VIDA Fitness for almost a year and teaches 7 different class formats that VIDA offers.
What makes your teaching style unique?:
I love taking standard exercises and finding new variations of them to make them more fun and effective for members. I want members to leave each week feeling like no two classes they have taken with me have been the same.
Tell us a little about the classes you teach. Who are they geared toward?:
I teach VIDA BODY, Xtreme, Conditioning, HIIT, Circuit, TRX, and Cycle. Body, Xtreme, Conditioning, HIIT, and Circuit are geared towards members who enjoy interval training and an intense but fun workout. I try to incorporate everything from body weight exercises to resistance bands to barbells in these classes. TRX is for members who want a more intimate experience. These are smaller group classes that are centered around TRX straps where I can really focus on each member of the class to insure they are getting the most out of their workout. And lastly, Cycle is for my cardio junkies. I put together a class full of engaging drills and sprints all molded around an EDM filled playlist to give members a great sweat after a long day.
If you could change one behavior you see in class participants, what would it be?:
When members take my class with injuries without telling me. Never hesitate to tell your instructor about an injury you have. We're here to help and are more than happy to modify certain exercises to accommodate you.
Briefly describe your weekly workout schedule. Is it seasonal? How many rest days do you take each week?:
Currently I weight train two muscle groups a day twice a week from Monday to Saturday and I take Sunday's as my rest day. I like to switch things up every few months so I don't get bored.
How do you recover from a tough workout?:
A good meal and relaxing with my two dogs usually does the trick.
What is your favorite Washington D.C. area outdoor activity? Share a favorite hike or run.:
Running the National Mall is the best run in the city. I mean how many people get to say they can run around the Washington Monument or the Lincoln Memorial whenever they want?
What is your favorite place in DC to get a healthy meal? :
Protein Bar a great spot. Their spinach and pesto quinoa bowl is amazing.
What do you like most about teaching fitness classes?:
I like building bonds with the people who take my classes. Some have expressed that I've become a big part of their lives and coming to my class has helped them reach their fitness goals. It's an amazing feeling to know that you're leaving a positive impact on someone's life.
Where and when can folks come take a class with you?:
